How long did it take for your blog to get traffic?

How long did it take for your blog to get traffic? I want to give some hope to all the people that are just starting out. My blog is one year old today and I am proud to say that I can earn a full time income with it. At first I hardly had any traffic and I almost gave up. I used all the right keywords and I tried to post new and original content almost daily. It took almost 8 months to finally be able to call my blog a success. I earn my money from ads and from product reviews. Companies get in touch with me and I post reviews of their products on my blog.

I have built several niche blogs organically.
All whitehat and manual, free traffic.
Long keywords
Writing 500-1000 word articles
Natural backlinks to other blogs.
It has taken a minimum 30 days to see some sales coming in.
It takes 3 months - 6 months for it to mature and rank well before seeing consistent daily income coming in.

The minimum time that it could take is a month. It all depends on your strategy for your blog. Content is the most important thing in a blog. If you have a high-quality content with daily updates then it wouldn't take much time to get ranked high in the search engine or to get enough traffic. You can get enough money from monetizing or by selling products on your blog. It takes time and patience but it pays to your hard work.

Maybe I have to agree with your measure of 1 month for a blog to get a decent amount of traffic. My suggestion is to have a marketing plan before you launch your new blog. The marketing plan can focus on social media networks because they are the best venue for finding traffic nowadays. Especially if your blog is well written and easy to read, your visitors will be coming back and their number will surely grow.

Thank you for sharing this. It really gives hope and encouragement to newbie like me. I am planning to start my own blog, though I have no idea how long it will take to eventually monetize my blog. I am happy to know that you can earn a full time income from your blog after a year, though I understand you have put in lots of effort.

Besides studying and putting in effort, I understand being patience is important as well.

I feel the same way too. Being a newbie sucks specially if you know little things about what you are trying to get into. -_- But thats to SEOclerk and the internet, we are learning something new each day.

My first blog took about 3 months to start having organic traffic.

My numbers improved when I applied a guestpost strategy by partnering with a high authority site and the same niche as my blog.

Particularly the visits coming from this site that affiliated me were not many, but my site simply rose in the raking of Google for having gained a greater authority. This caused me to receive 3 times more visits.

I created a blog 3 years ago and i must say that after all this time my traffic is very low. I made a lot of advertising campaigns, but that was not enough. I decided not to add my Adsense account to my blog because i am afraid to get banned.
To answer to your quesrry Roxan, it takes time and a lot of work and all depends on you and your investment if you need more traffic than you already have!

Why are you afraid of getting banned? If you follow the AdSense guidelines you really won't have any issues whatsoever... yes the rules are strict but they're fairly easy to understand and not to break. You are potentially throwing away some money by not using AdSense or some other option. You should reconsider it because it's definitely worth trying out ;)

I think you have to take some actions for those traffic to properly work out. I have seen that some users take lot of time to write guest post and other promotion options. So those methods never work out that easily. So start small. And keep promoting. I am sure that would help.

Your post acted as a stimulant for me. I gave up blogging only after a few months because I failed to generate enough traffic. May be I lacked the patience and gave up very easily.

Now I'm thinking of restarting blogging with a new zeal and spirit. Can you please share the platforms you used for blog promotion? I shall be really thankful for your help and support.

Hey amitkokiladitya,

It's nice to see that you've again found your initial motivation for blogging... I know that the start can be a bit rough but if you're truly passionate about it and determined to make it work, you will! Just focus and don't give up.

You asked for suggestions regarding the blog promotion platforms and the answer is very straightforward - social media. Yes, that's all you need to promote your blog. If you have some social media profiles set on websites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, make your followers know that you're going to start blogging again! Spread the word through there and you will see a traffic increase. Also, don't forget about including a bit of SEO ;) it will help rank your site.

My blog actually took around 6 months before it started to get traffic. Over this period I had to have a part time job in order to support my future career in blogging. I would definitely say it has been worth it.

My blog gets a decent amount of traffic but the income from it is negligible. I suspect that my problem is that I'm writing in a niche which has low earning potential. I don't plan to give up though because I'm writing on a subject I'm passionate about. However I'd love to come up with another blog in a niche that will do better.

It's good to know that it's still possible to make a full time income from a blog. I just wonder whether I'm capable of writing about something that will earn much.

It took about three to four months for my blog to register consistent traffic. I had doubled up and increased marketing strategies using social media platforms. I also had a couple of guest bloggers on my site It seemed to work out fine:

It didn't take me too long actually because I started using my social media sites in order to promote my blogs, and so I had some people who cared about or were already interested, somewhat, in what I was doing. However, at this point, I've hit kind of a plateau, and so I am looking for new and creative to increase, retain, and grab old and new traffic and frequenters. I do get a couple hundred hits every day at each blog/site, so I think that's pretty good for a newbie.

I've just launched a self-hosted blog for the first time. I actually spent the whole first month trying on different themes and tweaking the site. I haven't published a single post yet because I'm working on having at least 7 posts on the blog. I don't want to turn off would be visitors with a one-post blog site. Amazingly, I got my first visitor, a spammer who commented on the 'loren ipsum dolor' text and left a link to his site. I'm quite positive about my blog and potential traffic because I'm working on a much searched niche that is close to my heart.

I have a blog of over eight years now, and still has no traffic. Until now, my blog has been kind of my secret spot. I never made it public. The time a blog takes to gain traffic totally depends on how hard you work on promoting it on social media!

My blog site is about recipes that I had made and tested out. However, I don't get much traffic from there. Instead I earn more at other sites instead. My blog site had been online for the past 8 years and yet I have not cash out of Adsense yet. I am earning $42 for 8 years, pathetic isn't it? Maybe I should remove Adsense and try Amazon links instead.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Gina145
You can add Amazon links without removing AdSense.

My blog doesn't earn a lot either, but I make more from AdSense than I do from Amazon. Perhaps that's because I'm not advertising the right products. In any case, you're blogging in a totally niche to mine, so Amazon might work better for you than it does for me.

Gee thanks for your advice. So, I will add in Amazon links for the kitchen utensils and stuff. However, what type of Adsense ads do you use in your plant blog?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Gina145
I don't think one has much control over AdSense ads other than their size and placement. AdSense just seems to pick ads based on the sites one has been visiting. It is possible to block certain types of ads if one doesn't want them though but I've never bothered with that.

My blog is actually one year old too and I have been unsuccessful in attracting viewers. It seems like if my advertising strategies are not efficient. I have equally been wondering whether the topics I posted on my blog are interesting. I know that I have to work really hard to attract viewers.

Well,I have a bit lucky.I started having traffic immediately.what I did was to start my content with a catchy title then share it to all my social media platform.I wrote the article in such a way that people would want to reply and it brough a lot of interaction and it was almost a success from the very beginning.

I wish that worked for me. Unfortunately I don't have a big following on social media, and even when people read my blog posts they rarely leave comments. What interaction my posts do generate is almost invariably where I share them on Reddit rather than on the posts themselves. I find that very frustrating.

I got traffic on my blogs day one. On the first day, I had over 200 visits. I was writing online since a long time and I had friends from various writing sites and blogs on social media. When I shared my blog link and announced that I have finally launched my blog, my facebook friends and twitter followers checked my blogs. Over the days, my friends and followers reshared and retweeted, and visitors continued to visit my blog. However, it took almost 3 months to generate organic traffic on my blog.

I have had blogs in the past that go a huge amount of traffic fast and I have had blogs just do miserable amount of traffic. And right now I would say my current 4 months old blog is doing miserable. Its a steady flow of traffic every day but its not increasing and it has decreased a little.

I know I need to change it up and after I get my new hard drive installed tomorrow I am going to change it up and start driving traffic home. I know what it takes to get traffic I just have had a lot of problems in real life that have taken we away from my blog. My goal is to triple my traffic in the next 3 months which is not hard to do!

I would say it builds, and if at first you don't succeed keep on trying. I think you will pick up knowledge as you go through the process and will have a successful blog with a good amount of traffic if you keep at it, and don't give up. As with many things, I think persistence is the key.

I admire and envy you for earning a full time income from your blog. This kind of post truly radiates inspiration that can rub off on the reader. At this moment, I get so excited on the prospect of putting up my planned blog. To think that my blog can be my livelihood, gee, isn’t that a great idea? I know it is easier said than done but if there’s a will, surely there is a way. And you have said it yourself that the way is to post original contents all the time and frequently. You are lucky to have built up a big readership and I guess they continue reading because your blogs are interesting.

It took a while. I started my blog in May 2018. At first traffic was slow. I used Seo and Social media. After a while I started getting 10 or so visitors to my blog a day. Getting traffic is a process and you have to keep at it. Publish new content even if you have no traffic. I know get thousands of visitors to my blog on a monthly basis. It took me about 6 months to reach here. At one point I had given up, but I learned to keep going.
