So I'm just curious as to how everyone does their work from home....
Do you use a laptop?
Do you use a desktop?
Or do you use both?
Do you find that one is easier to work from than the other?

So I'll start it off...I use a desktop with two monitors every single day to work from home. I like my set up like this because it is easier for me to handle and work on my orders. I do lot of social media and seo promotion, so to be sitting in the right chair with both my monitors is the way I like to work. I have tried working from a laptop before and it just doesn't work out well for me. I can never get comfortable and the one screen is just not enough for me!

Let's hear how everyone else prefers to work!!

I had a desktop a long time ago but I didn't like the fact that I couldn't go out to a coffee shop and work if I wanted. Having a desktop means you have to do your work at home, unless you buy a laptop as well. But even if you have both a desktop and laptop, you run into the problem of not having all the same files and software on each system. I know you can store everything in the cloud or on a VPS, but if that gets corrupted you'll lose all your stuff Do you work from a laptop or desktop?

For the last 8 or 9 years I've dedicated to a laptop for my work because I can be completely mobile. And by completely, I mean I can even work from my car if I set up my phone as a hotspot and then link my laptop to it lol

Usually I'll have a desktop at home for the family, my personal laptop and a work laptop. My work laptop usually needs to be switched out every couple years because I use it so much that the hard drive starts to go out on me. When this happens I'll swap my personal laptop and make it my "new" work laptop. I'll begin the transfer of files from my old work laptop to my new one and once that's done I'll either get a new hard drive for my old laptop or I'll just get a new laptop online from newegg, frys, or somewhere like that

I use a desktop with two monitors, just like you. I have things like skype and an open .txt document on the second screen, amongst some other things.. And the main screen is used for the actual thing I'm doing. Even if I watch a youtube video or whatever I do, it's on the main screen. (Except "X factor/Swedish Idol auditions. Those youtube videos are playing all day long on my second screen).

Oh, I have a laptop too. On the floor right now actually. I should probably put it away but I'll leave it there. It's nice to have my feet on something useless.

Yes what I do is set my laptop on top of my desktop underneath my desk that way there is plenty of leg room and all my computers are in one spot lol!

I use both!

Laptop
I use the laptop when I want to be mobile, so I don't have to neccessarily work in a restricted space. I also use a laptop while catching up on some TV shows. I can easily sit on my couch and work via the laptop. However, the only downfall is the laptop battery needs to be replaced so you have to make sure the power cord is constantly plugged in.

Desktop
Not much to say, the desktop I use is an old IBM, primarily sold in the early 2000s, upgraded to fit Windows 7. The office space for the desktop is small, and not very comfortable. The chair is a wooden table chair, which I'll need to purchase a real desk chair.

I use desktops in the office and laptops when traveling. Generally, I need big screens because I have a lot of programs or websites open and this makes my work ten times more efficient. A laptop doesn't work well for me because of the small screen size, too much scrolling around.

yea i can say i can agree with this 100% you know do not get me wrong laptops are always good, but like you just so happened to mention a laptop is really just for traveling purposes see i work from home and i have to use two monitors myself and even when one monitor goes down it really sets me back it can be things like this that making laptop use hard you do not get the same functionality out of a laptop that you would a desktop computer , hands down i would just rather be at a desk

Thank you Razzy for replying! It is interesting to see what works for other people and what is more efficient for everyone else! When I'm out, I can usually work straight from my phone. When my family and I take vacations, I tend to always bring at least one monitor with me and one of my smaller desktop computers, as like I said before, it is just easier for me to work that way. I'm interested to see what others have to say and wht others use to work with. Thanks again!!

That's interesting, having two screens might be very helpful actually as I keep opening several tabs while writing. At the moment I use a laptop. I like it because of its portability, and since I sometimes have to move from one room to another it is the best option for me. It has been quite some time since I used a desktop computer actually, and most of my work from home was always carried out on a laptop. However if I were to have the possibility of setting up an office in a separate room I would surely opt for a desktop.

I use one monitor a 27-inch monitor with a desktop and laptop plugged into it so I can switch between the 2! I use my laptop with a wireless keyboard and mouse as tho it were a desktop. I like the fact that in a power outage I have that 6 hr battery backup so I don't lose running programs. I am also a Dell and windows 8 person all the way lol!

Thank you for replying everyone! I was just curious to see how my fellow freelancers work and what their set up was. I use two monitors because I always have many tabs open at once and use one of the screens as my main screen. So in this case laptops don't really work for me but can be convenient when travelling.

Hi jkeyz2 thanks for your question. As a freelancer I never used desktop for doing freelancing job. I have a desktop in my home which almost unused over 8 years. So, in home and office I used Laptop for working freelance job. Besides, I also used tablet PC while I moving here to there and mostly I used it for quick response while I am on the way. I have 10+ Laptops in my office and all of my staffs also used Laptop for working job. And very rarely I saw some of old office using only Desktop PC and some of specific reason people still may used desktop. Either all are now use to use Laptop for any work.

I use my laptop mostly. but I also have a pc.

My laptop recently had to go in for repairs and I had to use my pc for about 2 weeks which felt really strange. I was not used to working at my desk in my office anymore. I realized how little I use my office!

Now I have my laptop back and I am happy as can be working on my cosy couch. Sometimes in winter I like to work from bed and I need my laptop for that

You may feel happy, and comfortable by using the laptop however it's very dangerous to spend a lot of time on them as it can cause health issues and even in some cases cancer.

What We Know: In a recent case, a 12-year-old boy developed a sponge-patterned skin discoloration on his left thigh after playing a computer game for several hours a day over a period of a few months. Even though he noticed that the laptop was getting hot, he didn’t move it. In another case, a Virginia law student sought medical attention after developing a skin discoloration on her legs.

Dr. Kimberly Salkey, who treated the woman, found that the bottom of her computer, which she used for several hours each day, reached a temperature of 125 degrees.

Dr. Neil J. Korman, a dermatologist and director of the Clinical Trials Unit at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, said that the medical name for “toasted skin syndrome“ is erythema ab igne, which means “redness by fire.”

“It’s a condition that was originally caused by people sitting for too long in front of a fire — maybe a fireplace or a space heater,” he told AOL Health. “It’s related to the skin having prolonged exposure to a certain high temperature, like with a laptop. There was a case of a very obese patient who was resting the laptop on his belly. He developed discoloration. It doesn’t go away.”

It's great you quit smoking.

It's rare to get cancer from a laptop, but your chances increase if you are constantly on the laptop, or even if the laptop is in your lap. I use to have these little lines on my lap, and stomach area, and the doctors didn't know what it was, and asked me to describe my daily activity, and i told him I used a laptop a lot during the day, and that's when I was informed that not only can it increase chance of cancer, it can make you infertile, havoc on your digestive system and cause all other health issues.

After that I always had something on my laptop, like a pillow, or something to protect my body from the heat or 'radiation' the laptop gives off. It's scary to think that a laptop can cause all those issues. Stay protected!

Well it certainly hasn't made me infertile hahahaa.... both my kids were unplanned and I was on birth control!

currently iam using dekstop pc for major work,,
so for usually using iam use tablet or smartphone android,my spesification pc are very standard,,with ram 2gb,hdd 160gb, and mouse wireless i can operate it easily,iam also curious with all of your freelancer how to do their job with above ten laptop ,
my experience this is quite good enough for me to earn some freelancing,
i prefer laptop , maybe here master can guide me ,,
what the requirement are for office and college?

It depends on the availability and convenience which one I will use. Our home desktop is situated in the living room and sometimes the dogs, we have 3, are barking incessantly for reasons outside of the house. In those instances I would go to the bedroom and use the laptop for working. The desktop is more convenient because I am used to the keyboard and the screen is also nicer with the graphics.

Desktop will last longer but laptop has more use. I have a laptop and it runs ow at 90 fps even in the middle of combat. Its not a powerhouse ofc but its a very capable machine.

Most of the time I work via laptop, as it is more convenient for me. The thing is that I work remotely and it is important for me to be in touch with clients wherever I am. However, I often have problems with charging with my laptop. It was not as critical as not being able to connect the usb flash. I had to search on the internet for Generic USB Hub driver download to update the drivers.
