Premium VS Free Wordpress Themes

In the past i was using many different WordPress themes for my blogs. Since Google algorithms changing, most of onpage SEO have to be updated frequently. So i had some problems with free themes because they are not up to date all the time. I needed to fix them sometime my self or change complete design with new theme, but sometime it can be confusing for regular visitors to find out all new details about browsing website... After that i decided to go and buy some quality premium theme from Themeforest website and it was good decision because themes are updated more often and new features added all the time. I am mostly using "Sahifa" and "Avada" themes on my blogs and they are very good with huge amount of options to make really professional looking website.

Do you use premium themes, and how you compare them with free themes? What is your experience and which themes you prefer?

For WP I'll never use a free theme. The free themes for WP compared to the premium themes is huge. I've paid $300+ for some custom made website designs in the past and they were no where near the quality I got from paying $50 to $75 for a premium theme on themeforest or templatemonster. I was actually a bit upset when I figured out what themeforest was because I had been paying at least $300 for a designer to build a design for me when I could have been spending $50 to $75 on something that was much better.

You may not be 100% unique, but that's not a huge deal now since Google is more focused on content. You can always edit your themes however you want, they usually have a pretty easy way of doing this. I actually bought a premium theme in the SEO and Online Marketing niche that had it's own editor. I literally just drag and drop what I want on the page and it updates after I save it. I don't have to mess with any code or programming, it's all in the editor.

I never jump the gun on buying a theme, I always do extensive research prior to opening my wallet (paypal lol). I'll always look for something that is responsive and can easily be edited. If the theme comes with a bunch of different layouts, I'm usually sold pretty quick because it's like buying multiple themes for the price of one

Yeah. It's true that Themeforest offering some very good quality themes, because there is a lot of quality suppliers who are in that niche, working all the time in that industry and they are always up to date with latest requirements regarding design, SEO and best features. So i never regret spending money there.

I am really interested in hearing what everyone has to say about this topic.

I have 2 websites with free themes and my other website has a paid theme.

I really don't know how this affects my websites but I have been considering getting paid themes for all my websites.

I don't know too much about themes and how to choose a good one so I haven't made this step yet.

Hi anweb thanks for your nice question. Between free them and premium them there has not many difference. I used free and premium both them for my blogs but both are almost same. And I purchased from theme forest. I do not want to say free them not good. Why people are using free theme. I would like to say if you are new blogger, you should go with free them as testing purpose. And that should be good. And you may see most of the free theme has premium version. But, has few limitation for accessing all feature within free. For example: you will not get quick update when you are free user. So, if you satisfy by using free version, then you can go for premium. And another different I saw in free and premium version as virus or spam attack. You will suffer many spam and virus attract for free theme, but, premium should be maximum protected by both threat.

Thanks for explaining these differences between free and paid themes Ajlancer, much appreciated.

I've seen a few people now recommending Theme Forest.

The difficulty I have is that I don't know how to choose a theme, what is really important and what is not?

I am just using free themes right now and so far it is working fine for me. I know that I do need to at some stage choose a paid theme but I would probably need loads of guidance for this!

I think that the theme has a considerable impact on how a site looks, but at the end of the day there is no need to opt for paid themes as the free ones are good enough. Besides Wordpress is very helpful from the start when you are considering which theme you will be choosing. For beginners there is surely no need to spend anything and in my opinion the free Wordpress themes are very nice. For those who feel that their site is doing great and they want to improve it further, than considering premium themes is quite ok I guess.

Even though I can see the benefits of having premium themes on wordpress site, I have never used a premium theme. For me paying $35 or more for a theme is out of my budget. Instead of spending that money on a premium theme, I will prefer to spend it on a marketing campaign. Having free theme does not mean your website will be considered of having low quality. A fee theme you are using on your wordpress site would be used by many people hence your website will not have unique look, other than not having unique look, I see no disadvantage of having a free theme. Some free themes have limited features and cannot be customized to full functions. however, you should always look appropiate themes.
