Making sure everything is just right before launching a new website can be a very demanding task, especially for Project Managers which need to coordinate all departments to get everything right in one try.

Before I give the “Go!” from an SEO point of view I always make sure the following are up and running before launch:

1. Unique meta descriptions for every page - keyword optimized
2. Unique title tags for every page - keyword optimized
3. Keyword in URL
4. Have the best and most useful info in the first paragraph
5. I check keyword density
6. If we did a re-design I provide a list of necessary redirects
7. Implement sitemap.xml
8. Set and verify Search Console and GA
9. Implement “Alt” tag for all images
10. Implement a proper robots.txt

What other to-do tasks do you guys think I should add?

Oh dear, I've never done anything like this. I have just used a website builder and published my website and started adding pages. Yes I do al of these things, but I get to them as I add new content.

I understand most of what you have listed here Cristian, but while I uderstand the concept of keyword density can you please let me know what the optimal density is?

And then item number 10 robot.txt can you please explain this? I have seen it mentioned before but I have no idea what this means.

I’m also surprised with the list of things that we have to know when launching an SEO campaign on our site. My focus is only on the quality of the content that it should adhere to the niche. That includes the keywords which should also be directly related to the niche so it will be effective in getting noticed by search engines. I really have no idea about the keyword density and optimization.

You pretty much covered it! I would still add meta keywords for the meta search engines. Another great tool for SEO is to implement schema.org. This is a very powerful way to get higher rankings. Google uses schema.org in their algorithm and you can achieve a noticeable bump in the organic results. Plus there are visual elements that will now show up for your listing in the organic results that the competition will not have. Example: Ratings and reviews. With schema.org your page will show with pictures and rating stars in the results. This will make you stand out from the crowd and people click on these exponentially more than a result without this added information. Schema has a lot to offer serious SEO professionals and should not be overlooked. see below.

You have to put it in the page code for every page. It is a pain but wort the time. Below is a link for the (full hierarchy schema). It covers just about all niches and needs.

It is a pain! I would outsource it for sure! If you want to do it your self do a little at a time if needed.

It is a bit complex but super powerful especially for local businesses and SEO. I outsource it myself due to the time involved to accomplish projects.

Meta keywords? No, those are long dead a buried, Google and pretty much any search engine out there doesn't count them as relevant anymore.
In fact, some SEOs even say having meta keywords can do more harm the good at the moment.

I agree on implementing microformats I'm still on the process of learning how to do it properly, they can be hugely efficient in improving your click throw rate.

I try to look at it from the standpoint that since there are still meta search engines out there I don't want to limit how my site gets found. I haven't notice any difference using meta keywords. I have seen people add 200 meta keywords on their site, Lol! This may hurt and could be seen as keyword stuffing but having a reasonable amount, below 10 should not matter. Actually I believe that if you limit meta keywords to just one or two and they match the rest of your on page SEO it could help.

I've noticed this a long time ago as well. I am constantly viewing the page source of big company websites, and even some smaller ones and one thing they had in common was the removal of the keywords metatag. So you're definitely on to something. I heard this was because the search engines will automatically "assign" keywords based on keyword relevance on the page, but uncertain about that.

The only place where you need to have keywords are URL, meta description, title, h1, h2 and text content. But my advice is to not have the same keyword on all these places because you will end up with an over optimized page.

Google is clever and he will figure out you over optimized something to get better ranks. Over optimization will lead to weak ranking pages.
