Do you think offering giveaways or prize draws on your website works?
Some websites offer giveaways or prize draws to their members to encourage them to stay active on their website. It may be a blog or a forum where they are offering the chance to win something for simply liking a Facebook or doing a small task. The advantage with this is that you offer something extra for your members which may make them loyal to your website and bookmark it. Normally, it will be some sort of cash incentive or something of good value, for example, iPhone or iPad. However, with the rise in scams, do you think this method may lead to people questioning the legitimacy of your offers? If you have proof that your offers are legitimate, then it may have a positive make members stay active. My main question is, do you think this method will increase the amount of traffic your website gets?

People want free stuff, they don't want to learn. If you give them something that breaks whether it be something physical they can hold or a piece of software, they will get pissed off because they won't be able to use it. You'll just get bad reviews and we all know one bad review can kill a website.
I'm actually launching a website that will review games and talk about everything the game I'm reviewing is about. Loads of content that will hopefully rank in the search engines after I do some off page SEO as well as the on page as I write and post.
I plan on doing a big giveaway each month. I want to giveaway a PS4 or Xbox1 each month to people who like our facebook page, instagram, or any social media platform. I'll randomly pick a winner each month and then see which console they want. I think it would be a great giveaway if I also added in something like "You must also share THIS post in order to gain access to the drawing" and the post will be of something like "Win a FREE PS4 or Xbox1 just for liking our page!" And after that I should be able to get the ball rolling lol :D
Free giveaways are always good, if you're giving away something that is of value. A free giveaway of you mentoring someone on how to set up a website wouldn't be as good as if you just set it up for them for free and hosted it as well lol :D People want free stuff, they don't want to learn. What I found is that at the time of the competition or the give away there is a lot of activity and engagement but as soon as it is over things die away very quickly.
I did loads of baby photo competitions which were very popular, the moms chomped at the bit for them and spent a lot of time on my website and on my social networks but as soon as the competitions were over they left. I also noticed that sales didn't really go up much either.
I found the competitions a huge amount of extra work and often not much in return.
The one big difference was to my subscribers list. Readers had to enter on my website and I had an option to check on the entry form to be added to my newsletter and so my subscribers increased quite nicely.
I am thinking of doing more baby competitions in the future when I have more time, now that I have Adsense it might be more profitable for me to do. I have done a lot of competitions and give aways on one of my websites. It was an online baby store with a mommy blog and now it is just a mommy blog.
