Now everyone talks about how social media can bring in sales, but they always say that you need to have something go viral. Having something go viral is extremely hard if you're not giving your posts or products the initial push ;)

Nothing really goes viral without a share of mention in an article on a popular website, NOTHING!

I've successfully gotten a few things to go viral for my clients and what I did was pretty simple.

Use Reddit: You can post on reddit to certain sub sections and you can get a decent amount of traffic to your video, post, or website. Using reddit can be great or it can backfire a lot if you are just posting ads. No reddit member logs in to view someone trying to push their own products, but they will love to see some funny video or post.
Use Facebook: Facebook gets a load of traffic, and you need to use it. Use their PPC campaigns and super target certain people. If I'm trying to make something viral I'll target people who already like reddit, 4chan, funnyORdie, and other groups/websites like that. I target them because not only will they share on facebook but they will usually share on those other websites that I'm targeting
Make it funny: It's no secret that funny posts go viral more than anything else. Sure there are news videos that go viral, but you can't go out and break the law just to be famous because that will always backfire lol.
Short and Sweet: Short videos under 5 minutes are easier to get to go viral than a 20 minute video. This is because people are impatient and want to see everything RIGHT NOW!!!! So make the video or post short and sweet to keep their attention long enough to share it

Pictures and videos increase views and clicks by 150%. Always use pictures or videos in your posts. Another thing that I do is post heavy during the best hours example Twitter 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. These times get a noticeable bump in traffic. I also found that scheduling 3 posts at the same time gets you more traffic. Out of the three posts you have a better chance of showing up near the top of other peoples feed especially for members who are following many people.

I have yet to get content to go like really viral but I have had a good number of small successes which has been really cool. I agree with you that it takes some time and effort on social media to get extra traffic.

I have one website that gets most of its traffic from my Facebook page and it really is an awesome to have such a great following. I have seen how some posts are really popular and get a lot of shares. I love watching how people engage on social media with my content. It has made me learn a lot.

I have yet to make a success of anything using Reddit... do you have any Reddit services Mike?

Reddit is great, with the right topic and the right niche, you can simply go viral there! Got tons of traffic last Halloween by promoting one of my articles there. Even though the comment stopped and not all of them were positive, I still got traffic for total of 3 weeks and this was good traffic, with low bounce rate that lead to nice conversions.

Reddit users are very picky and can be very direct in their opinions, you may not be successful at first and may also be marked as spam, but once you understand the community's culture, reddit ca become on of your main sources of traffic.

This is true in the sense that once any marketer or in some cases owners of a company that sells products or offers services to their clients bring it to the social media platform, there is bound to be an increase in sales no matter how little it is going to be, unless the person did not run the needed ads well or connect with these online users in a way that would make them part with their money for your products/services. So, I'm glad you listed ways one can get such things done.

Thank you for this great thread. Choosing the most suitable advertising campaign can be quite difficult. The success of your business on Facebook will depend more largely on how others perceive you. So far I have been successful on Facebook and I have been able to grow my customer base. I have not yet tried video advertising and I will try your suggestion.

For social media marketing, you need to create an account for your ecommerce sites on various social media platforms, build followers and promote your products. You can also run an ad.

It is better if you have a social media account that is very active so your presence is established. That way, you can freely make your promotional posts and you will not be tagged as spammer. And if you have a lot of active friends then more likely they will react to your post and check your website. The key to getting maximum from social media sharing is followers. If you have more followers, you will gain more traffic and social signals. If you want to do social media marketing consider developing a large fan base. You need thousands of active followers. Having a high number of followers is important, and equally important is having followers who are interested in your niche.
