Hi all. So today for some reason my computer has gone kaput on me! It had been playing up and making strange noises for a little while now. And I had a sneaking suspicion it was the hard drive. And I was going to back up my saved files and stuff on it to an external drive but I can't seem to find it so was going to get one I could do that with. Anyway, today on turning on my computer it's not booting up. It shows the Packard bel logo but it doesn't let me boot even into safe mode. I've tried everything but it's not having it! And I'm getting a bit worried now because I have virtually everything on it, my clients work, my saved text files, plans, projects, stuff like that.

Anyway ive just ordered a new computer now but it's not going to be here for a few days which means I won't really be able to fulfill people's orders. I might go down the library tomorrow and see what I can do on that as I should be able to complete a couple orders for articles and stuff.

But otherwise I won't be able to do much until I get online properly!

But tell me this, is my hdd proper gone or do you think there would be a way I can somehow extract the data from it somehow? Have you ever done this before yourself? Does anyone here know and thing about that and can point me in the right direction to some way I can do that?

Like, what gear would I need to get to connect that to my new computer? I guess it's just a matter of knowing what kind of hdd it is right? I think it's a SATA HDD if that helps!

I think your best bet would be to take it a really good IT person. I had mine crash on me before and one guy was able to restore some parts through some software... I got no idea. My computer knowledge isn't complex enough to fully understand how.

But ye, ever after that crash, I started doing backups. I do at least one backup every 2 days. It might seem much but it's worth it. The amount of data you can potentially lose vs spending 5 minutes for a backup?? seems like a no brainer. Just buy an external USB HDD and save everything on there in the future. Hope your loss wasn't too great.

There are two parts of a hard disk. One is media and other is a circuit. Once I had a problem with my hard disk as it was not working. I went to a computer repairing shop and told them the problem, They checked the hard disk and told that the circuit is damaged but media is safe. So I asked them to change the circuit because I don't want to loose my data. They changed the circuit and gave my hard disk back to me.

When I connected it to the computer, it worked perfectly. In this way, I saved all my data and lost nothing.

Whenever you have a problem with hard disk then you must check for the problem. If the media stays safe then you have an option to get your data secured but if the media is crashed there nothing else you can do other than buying a new hard disk and forgetting about your data.

This happened to our home desktop earlier this year. The hard disk just crashed without warning although prior to that, it has been emitting a peculiar sound. And although we had a backup in a portable hard disk, it is still hard work to recreate the system disk. It's a good thing that we have one spare disk with the same OS as the old one. So what we did was to insert it and it's running already. The hard part is in restoring all the files - copying from the archive into the computer's new hard disk. It's really worth it when you have a backup of your files because nothing is lost when a crash happens.

I am not to sure mike , I also use online services to save some data which later if I need it its there always. But with faulty HDD not to sure. Is there anyway you could try in another machine . If it still not doing anything then not sure what you can do just get a new one. But like you say all your data is on it ...

There's not too much that you could do, there are some places that do hard drive recovery, but they can charge from 500 up to several thousand. If it really is the hard drive being the problem then there may not be much you can do. However when you do get your new computer, make sure that you start backing up from the get go! That way even when something crashes, you have it all backed up and saved

Me I always prepare for such incidences.. What you should do us invest in an external hard drive and save your important files on it, in case something like your hardware crashes, you will have a piece of mind knowing your Intel is safe.. So I advise you to prepare for something like this, so you will not have to go by a technician and get charge a ridiculous amount of money.

When your hard drives crashes you of to buy a bigger and better one in order to have more space and more speed to the computer.Hard drive crashes is very hot at certain time.

Its also important to be great friends with a genius computer technician, because this is the time when you will need them.. And they might not charge you that high also..

Cloud services offer a good small backup for incase things do go wrong for your important documents. Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.

My drive once crashed, and I thought that I lost all my data. But then I remembered that I could recover my deleted items in Office 365 with the help of https://spinbackup.com/blog/how-to...s-in-office-365/ at Spinbackup. I am so thankful to them for providing me with such a fantastic service. I was able to recover almost all my data, and that's fine by me.
