Write the reason you're deleting this FAQ

If you online professional, there has so many confusion may work in your mind identify yourself as professional. Or, if anybody ask about your profession, you may confused how you introduce yourself as online
professional. I always love to say I am a outsource contractor. Somebody may say, I am freelancer and somebody may say,
I am working from home or some are say I am self-employed.

All words may meaning same way but feeling may different. I feel as outsource contractor has more responsibility for doing any task. But, when I say I am freelancer, other may think oh! you are freelancer, mean you are freedom. All you know guys as a outsource contractor, we are no free or freedom. We need to do job for our client and
each task has different client and all clients are our boss.

So, how you feel as online professional? What you like tosay to introduce to someone?

I do a lot of video and editing work for local clients, so my job is half online, half in person. Generally all communication is taken care of online as well as the editing and distribution of the product, but I have to show up to shoot what the client needs. Because of this, it's important how I introduce myself online. When I quote someone on a project, I don't refer to myself as a professional, but rather explain to them how long I've been in my current field of expertise. I'll usually say something like "I'm really interested in helping you film you [event]. I've been doing videography for around 7 years now, and have experience writing, shooting, and editing all of my material and seeing a project through from conception to completion."

Different methods may work for different people, but that's my approach. I think it means more to people online to know how long you've been doing what you do as opposed to whether or not you're a "professional". A body of work and good reviews for them to see go a long way, too.

I think that is a good line to introduce yourself as a video maker and not exactly professional but your track record will speak for you. Sometimes a prospective client is turned off when the service provider is a show off as if he is the best in the field and is obviously trying to impress people. When someone would do that to me, I would immediately ask for his price list so that I could start haggling because I don’t believe that he is really that good.

You are right about there being several designations for online workers. I would go for freelancer as that is what I am. Very rarely will I be working under someone unless I have decided to accept projects and do articles for those projects.

I think online work requires consistency. You can see that offline work has lot of consistent client. But often that is harder to do with the online clients. You have to hunt for new clients here every single day. And that's where things need to be changed. You can see that being professional while not having jobs and having them differs. You have to be in always a good position to negotiate the cost. I think offline work experience matters a lot in that case.

You can first self introduce yourself, bring out the jobs that you had done for companies and the number of years you had been in this line. Show your profile in your website with pictures and works done. I am sure this stuff can bring out the professionalism in your job.

Depending on the work i might be considered a freelancer or a hired person. So i prefer to classify myself as a content writer. No confusions can happen this way.

I was just having a discussion on another forum where I said sometimes people think the word freelancer means cheap. I think the trick is to brand yourself in a unique way, such that your pricing can match the value you offer.

It is being stereotype these days. For example, Me from India and my friend from philipines,both of us are getting stereotype of low cost work. She says most of the startups want them to work at 2$. And in case of other work the amount never reached above 10$. So that is something I'd not consider as professional these days. it's peanut work going on these days.

Haha, yeah, I agree with your points Ajlancer. In my country freelancing still, isn't as widely known as compared to some bigger countries like the U.S.

So, when a person asks me ''hey, do you do?'' and I reply with ''I'm a freelancer'' they give me this weird look... as if freelancing wasn't actual work or something. I don't know why people see certain professions that don't work in an office at a normal work schedule of 8 hours, as ''weird'' or bad. I put an equal amount of effort and energy into my projects and I deserve the same recognition as others. I am always proud that I am a freelancer though. I love being able to have a flexible schedule, not being tied to only one company or client and to do what I enjoy doing!

I normally introduce myself to people as a blogger, content creator, and freelance writer.The thing with working online and doing so many things at the same time is that it is often difficult to introduce yourself to people.When you say that you are an online professional, many people are left wondering what you do exactly.I think this is a major problem for many people.The majority of people out there think that almost every body is a blogger.Some people especially the older generation do not understand how one can work online.Their definition of work often involves hard work or manual labor.

I haven't really thought much about this actually. When people ask what I do for work, I would say I"m a CPA and that's it. However, things have changed in the past three years and I find myself doing more writing work than accountancy work. I don't feel like a freelancer either because I have a part time job. And now, I'm a blogger! This is the fun thing in online work - you can be anyone you want to be and you have time to explore your talents and put them to good use. As of now, I'd call myself a freelance writer because that's how I've been earning online.

I don't work entirely online. I do a fair amount of mystery shopping, so I consider that to be my current "profession." However, I have said in the past that I work online as a writer. You can call yourself whatever you like to call yourself honestly.

I will be starting a new job as a freelance online tutor soon. If someone asks me about my occupation then I would say that I work as a freelance online tutor. I already have some experience in teaching and when I found this job I couldn't prevent myself from applying. I am happy that I got selected and I would love to start doing this job soon.

Thanks for sharing your opinion here. As a online profession I always try to say myself digital marketer rather to say freelancer or out source contractors or work from home. I agree with someone who try to mentioned or specify as individual work purpose like content writer or video editors. That also great! But sometime people may not understand what you do and how you do? That is why most of the online profession used to say freelancer. Myself I am digital marketer, because of selling digital product on internet. whatever SEO or affiliate or virtual product or digital product.

If I ever choose to be an online professional I would choose to sell digitals this would consists of Videos like How to videos, Or Baking videos to show some special recipes and may be Meditating audios from Prossionals to teach people how to meditate, Why not even Sell musics I read people who are successful in this domain and I think it can work for anyone who takes it serious :-)

Freelancer is a common professional word in my country of Bangladesh. If any one ask to me what is your profession and if I answer that I am a full time freelancer and outsourcing worker at marketplace- than every body get knowledge that I have been working with outsouricng world. At 2008-2009 time Bangladesh Army had been built Advance fingerprint Interface system based voter registration database. Now the Freelancers of my country has been trying to add the freelancer profession on the main country database professional category.

You may call yourself whatever you want. You can be a writer, an artist, a website designer, or a freelancer. Doesn't matter how you call it, the main thing is to tell and share with others your experience as an online worker. People likes to judge under stereotype stigmas, but life is constantly changing, and this new professions go along with the social developing and improvement.

I'm not yet an online professional but as an active user.I will be able to educate a newbie about internet marketing and networking. Just like regular jobs,tasks online could also be tasking and as such the myth of money grabbing online should be dropped. No free money anyway.

I don't think that I would have to be specific about what I do for a freelancer can try to handle every job that comes around or in some instances hand it over to the people capable of helping out. So, my profession online is working as a freelancer and I enjoy the work I do not only because I make money from it, but as a result o having to learn more in the course of doing my job.

People can be very annoying and inquisitive. They always want to know what you're doing!This can be a hard question to answer especially if you're trying to figure it out. People tend to look at you like you don't know what you are doing if you don't have a straight answer. I'm always tempted to tell people to mind their own business, then I realize that I have to live amongst these people. I have crafted the perfect answer, I always say that I run my own businesses online or that I work as a freelance online consultant. When I start making more money, I even plan to have business cards made and to get office space.

This discussion is related to my profession. I work in a bank but I don’t want to be called a banker simply because I am not. With my freelancing, I tell people when they ask me of what specific job I do, my reply is content provider. Yeah, I am a writer in the internet. And what do I write? Anything, blogs and articles. I don’t dare go to specifics because the conversation will just expand and nothing substantial will come up since writing is not really an exciting job.
