That excessive promotional posts in Facebook

I have recently unfollowed and unfriended some of my friendsin Facebook because of the annoying posts regarding their business. One close
friend whose dropshipping business is prospering would be making at least 10
posts in a day that features clothes and accessories. It seems that for each
product that she sells, she would post the pictures with the corresponding
price. I understand that the social media is the most potent tool in promoting
an online business but doing it excessively has its drawbacks. When I know the
Facebook friend personally, I would just unfollow him so I wouldn’t see the
promotional posts anymore. But when I don’t really know the person, I unfriend
him. My usual advice to them is to create a Facebook page where they can post
all the products that they sell. And then make one post in Facebook that points
to the page.

People get pretty annoying when it comes to facebook advertising. They think that they can just post to their friends and family then become overnight millionaires lol. What they're really doing is just annoying their friends and family to a point where they eventually end up getting ghosted or deleted from someones friends list because it's just too much.

A lot of newer business owners also don't know how to use the power of facebooks PPC platform for their own benefit. They hear PAY PER CLICK and think they need to spend thousands in order to make money, which isn't true. You can literally spend $10 and make $100 if you know what you're doing and your website/product is good.

Yes, there is no reason you need to see intrusive advertising posts all day. I have unfollowed some people because their posts were getting annoying to me. People who are always posting the same content regardless of what it is get annoying. I find them to be a big problem.

I concur with you here. People need to learn to use tact when it comes to this type of social media bombardment. I get really dissuaded and lose patience with people who over-promote. This is a tough balance to find for them, though, because I am the type of person who is extremely busy, just like the rest of us, so I do need reminders to go and check things out; however, I am also so busy that TOO many reminders might push me away from a business, product, or service-provider.

Well, social media promotion, especially to your friends, can be a tricky thing. It's a technique that has to be developed in order to intrigue the viewer but not to the point of annoyment consistently with excessive promotional posts. However, it should be noted that these are people looking to grow their business in whichever product/service they are selling. So the general idea is to support your friends' concepts anyway.

I think as long as it one's account and page,they feel they can post anything which is true but that doesn't mean excessively.

Even it like 3-4 a day,it okay but unfair to dump everything in one day.

10 posts a day is far too many, in my opinion. I read that the average person on Facebook has 300 or so friends, and if you're posting more frequently than those other friends, your posts can definitely become intrusive and annoying, especially if you're trying to sell them on something. I think that given our access to the internet, we're not as susceptible to marketing techniques as we used to be, and it's important that we don't overload our audience and turn them off from our product or service.

I have a friend that is doing something similar although not as bad as the friend that you mentioned in your post. He posts about once or twice a day about some health products that he recommends. I'm not sure if he has bought the products and is trying to sell them or if he is doing some sort of affiliate thing. I have never bothered to read them properly, I see the promotional image on the post and just scroll past it. I feel bad for unfriending him so haven't done that as yet.

Aw, my bet is that he's trying to make money through affiliate links. A friend of mine is currently doing the same but it is about some weird children toys - he does around 2 posts per day but I never click. I just either scroll over or add his post to my "don't show" list. I don't have the heart to completely unfriend him. I don't know him personally but still, we've been friends for a long time.

Yes, you can unfollow them though. I unfollowed my cousin because I couldn't stand her posts that were nasty and demeaning to some of the people she works with..and also opposite political opinions. I didn't want to unfriend her because she is family after all, but unfollowing was the perfect solution.

I can totally understand how you feel. I have seen some people actually doing this too and I can confirm that it is really annoying. It is so irritating to keep on seeing those repetitive posts. There is a limit to everything. Some people think that if they posts more then they will get to reach more people. However, this may not be true in all cases. I have unfollowed a particular friend as I got tired seeing her posts cropping up on my home page.

Didn't you post an extremely similar thread not long ago? I swear I replied to it or my memory is playing tricks on me, haha

either way, yes you are right. For me personally, somewhere between 2-3 promotional posts per day is still fine since I understand why they're doing it but anything over is annoying and not needed. I'd hate to unfollow my friends or block showing their posts from my timeline. Perhaps if you feel like somebody is spamming such posts, send them a private message? It might help.

LOL. sounds funny to me, you need to understand somethings in life, people are wired differently and so are certain actions. You need to know that this is Facebook and he is posting it on his timeline not on your door post. although some people can be irritating with their post, even me I have come across such time of folks. But that's why there is an unfollow button, you just unfollow the person, so you can stop seeing their posts. You don't need to unfriend your close friends, because there are looking for a way to place food on their table. Remember not everyone can afford to advertise on Facebook.

To be fair, posting more than you need to can be counterproductive regarding a business. If people are interested in your product, they will buy it, and not because you think you meet some big arbitrary number of posts per day. I understand that people are struggling to promote their business, but you can find a middle ground. Also, the unfollow button is easy to use, but there's always going to be multiple people trying to promote their business, which is the hard part.

Exactly. And regardless of the fact that there's an unfollow button, if you're trying to market a business or service, it wouldn't be in your best interest to make people want to unfollow you either. It's all about discretion to those who are your audience. There's definitely a line between good marketing and advertising, and being annoying with too many promotional posts. If you're marketing your business, you can't say "this is how I'm going to market myself on Facebook and screw you to anyone who is annoyed by it".

That's not the right mentality to have about it at all.

OP, I agree with you that excessive promotional posts can be annoying. Posting that much is counterproductive because you drive away customers with annoying advertising and you just come across as spammy. Ideally, I think you should only post a few detailed posts, and then link people to your page as needed. There's no reason to flood your timeline with posts like that. I've had friends annoyed with me because they kept getting notifications about me playing games. I also don't like it when people send excessive invitations to events that have nothing to do with you to your inbox. Another issue is not the excessive promoting, but people are doing it in inappropriate places. I have been on pages where people are looking for roommates, talking about school, etc. and someone posts a comment that is obviously spam or has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Their strategy is obviously not a good one.

I have a former officemate who have a second hand clothing. , bags and shoes business. She would display all her products on facebook and my notifications would be so plenty because of the pictures of her bags, shoes and clothes for sale.
I feel lik un-friending her already, but I know it would hurt her.
So, I woud just scroll and scroll her posts.
i think, indeed that she shoud have a separate acout for her business. She should just advertize on her account that if they want to see what she sells, the shoud just go to her business page.

I have to agree with this. those promotions are quite excessive. I think it's the wrong approach. It's ok to make a post or two to promote another page, but you're right, perhaps a separate page would work better for it. People are more likely to unfollow these kinds of people.

A limit to stop this kind of visual pollution needs to be created urgently, but the only person who can do this (but he won't do it not to lose money) is Mark Zuckerberg, haha. The money that profits from this type of advertising on Facebook is immense.

I would never post any type of business stuff directly on my own facebook page. I would do as many suggested and to create a page for promotional posts. That is why they have the page and group features. Some of my friends reshare promotional posts that are sponsored and do not even realize that it is a promotional post. Sometimes my entire feed is nothing but click-bait, or sponsored posts. It gets real annoying!

Facebook has turned into a mass advertisement platform instead of a social network, too many people creating promotional posts, and sometimes it's really hard to find posts by your friends down your news feed because of the facebook related spam. So if you want to promote your posts, or post 10 posts about products you're selling, create a page!

When it comes to marketing / advertising, Facebook has turned into a real platform for war. Although I understand this need, it's impossible to deny how much this is being used so excessively (and this is obviously very annoying, even if you don't use Facebook so often).

Sooner or later this will have to change, or Facebook will lose many users (and I'm sure Mark Zuckerberg is aware of that).

As an entrepreneur, I also do attraction marketing like your friends do but not up to that extent. We have a training on doing attraction marketing properly. We were taught that we shouldn't do excessive posts like what you've mentioned. Three posts per day would be enough. Posts should have a balanced topic. Not everything should only be about business. I create diversity on things I post. Among the things I post are the following:

Business
Travels
Humor
Faith
Quotes
Health
Family and friends
Our team events

I post these things most of the time. I create diversity by posting things outside my business but they can also be applied in the business sometimes. Other posts are about updates with my life that reflects a positive life or changes in personality brought about by the business. This is how I do attraction marketing.

I also notice some users/ pages who make excessive promotions in Facebook where sometimes it get a little annoying. There are also ads in some videos which is a little annoying because some takes about 30 second for a minute long video. I just try to skip on them if I didn't want to wait. The ads on the pages is a little all right though.

I think 10 advertising posts a day is very excessive. I do sponsored posts on my Facebook page but only 2 per week per paying customer. Sometimes less than that.

Excessive promotion is really bad. I have unfollowed many business pages and people just because they were doing excessive promotion. I cannot tolerate the posts from the same person 10 times in a day. I do not want my feed to be cluttered. I am an internet marketer myself. In my opinion, sharing 1-2 posts in a day by spreading out is a good idea for promotion on social media.
