Google's name comes from the misspelling of the word "googol" which is the name for a (very large) number: "a one followed by one hundred zeros".
Interestingly enough, Google's first search engine product was named "BackRub".
However, the founders were apparently paranoid that it would be construed as a porn destination ("Wet box"), so they changed it again.

I like this number. We also learn it at the university. Googol is the biggest number ever known... But it's really interesting because when you say Google, everybody knows it...
