Technology consulting refers to as a field of activity which aims on advising organizations on how best to use information technology (IT) in achieving their business objectives efficiently.
The IT consulting industry is basically a Four-tier system: In the first tyre of the technology consulting services where the professional services firms maintain large workforce of professionals and command high bill rates.
Staffing firms are the second tier system which place technologists with businesses on a temporary basis; these tier of systems typically in response to employee absences, temporary skill shortages and technical projects.
Third tier are the Independent consultants, who are either the self-employed or who function as employees of staffing firms (for US tax purposes, employed on Form W-2), or as independent contractors in their own right (for US tax purposes, on "1099").
The fourth tier system is the Information Technology security consultants.
